Examinations, diplomas and grading scale
Examinations, diplomas and grading scale in university education.
Examinations at Danish higher education institutions are either internal or external.
Internal tests
Internal tests are defined as: 1) tests assessed solely by teachers at the university (internal examiners), or
2) tests assessed by an internal examiner as well as an external examiner appointed by the university from among the teachers at the university.
External tests
External tests are defined as tests which are assessed by internal examiners and external examiners appointed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. At least one-third of a programme’s total ECTS credits must be obtained from external tests. External tests must cover the important parts of the study programmes, including the Bachelor project, Master’s thesis and Master project.
The external examiners are responsible for assuring the same standard for all examinations and thus their quality.
Diploma
After completion of a full study programme, the student is awarded a diploma and a transcript.
Grading scale
The grading system used in all state-regulated education as from August/September 2007 is the 7-point grading scale. The grading scale is compatible with the ECTS grading scale.
Apart from the 7-point grading scale, pass/fail assessments may also be used. 02 is the minimum grade for passing an exam.
